i saw this poem posted in childfree hardcore today, and it put a knowing smile on my face.

This Be the Verse
BY PHILIP LARKIN

They fuck you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.

But they were fucked up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another’s throats.

Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don’t have any kids yourself.

i, for one, know i won't be passing my misery or screwed-up-ness to any kids.

I think I've finally gotten the hang of this tablet thing, after 5 million years of having it.

Dear Joe Mallozzi, Brad Wright, and the rest of you jokers,

I was going to write a long rant about how pissing off your fanbase is a bad idea, and if you're going to say, "You just don't get it" to a whole bunch of science fiction fans (read: overeducated sarcastic jerks with too much time on their hands), you better hope like hell that you're right and they're wrong, and how you can all generally just eat me.

But then I realized everything I needed to say could be summed up in cat macros. So,

Cut for images, snark, etc )

despite hemming and hawing for the last two years or so that my law school laptop was on its last legs, and that i wasn't going to pay to upgrade the RAM or do anything else to it, it has become pretty clear that this box is my primary computer, and will be for some time. despite some cosmetic damage...some cracks in the case, the super-glued-on space bar, it still runs pretty nicely, especially with xubuntu on it.

so, today, i finally caved. i maxed out the RAM on my cranky old laptop--going from a paltry 512 megs to a slightly respectable 2 gigs.

the thing that got me to do it was the fact that i'm planning on working through metasploit unleashed soon, and that requires running vulnerable VMs on your computer in order to exploit them. i realised that there was no way i'd be able to run both a base OS and a VM with only 512 megs of RAM. that wasn't going to happen.

aside from that rather practical consideration, though, it's really, really nice not to have the computer slow down to molasses speed if i had both firefox and a video or music player running. between the fact that i have four times the RAM i had this morning and the fact that i'm still running xubuntu (and not something more bloated), my old box is zipping along better than ever!

i seriously should have done this years ago.

It's no news that I have a lot of websites. 21, actually, to be exact (3 fansites, 15 fanlistings, and 3 other sites).

But with the full-time job weighing down on me, and other such adult responsibility (bleck), it's time I considered closing or repurposing some sites.

Therefore, I have come up with this list of sites I am thinking of closing or making important changes to. Please feel free to make comments or offer suggestions as to what I should close/change/KEEP FOREVER.

I'm not sure where to put people who engage in creative gender presentation, because it raises questions that are too interesting to be answered in a poll response. So just check here if you're as hot for Ru Paul and Eddie Izzard as I am.

I still think this might be furry.
4 (13.3%)

Also, isn't it distressing that those dudes are all older than those women? Or should I just think about how fine Lauren Holly is some more?

Dude, why did nobody tell me Christopher Guest is a British Peer? Why am I just learning this? He was in the House of Lords, FFS!

1. So I finally read Unseen Academicals. Spoilers, obvs )

1a. Ponder Stibbons and Jimmy Palmer: Separated at birth? Y/MFY

1b. Reading about the Wizards always leaves me STARVING. They just eat so much, and it all sounds so very delicious. I would do unspeakable things for (and to) a bacon sandwich right now.

2. Is it just me, or does anybody else parse [info]sgagenrefinders as "sga-gen-refinders"? As in, people who look for lost gen? I just can't unsee it.

3. OMG! Preview is up for my [info]sgabigbang story! OMG!

4. Now, I think it is time to make a huge breakfast and a pot of tea (GOD PEOPLE, never let me go to the Teavana again, I am so poor yet so happy), do some readings, and try not to feel awkward about asking legitimate yet workshy questions of my DGS. Oh, grad school.

ETA 5. Also here is a meme what I stole from everyone:
Pick a paragraph (or any passage less than 500 words) from anything I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

Whoa, it's been a while! I have some good news -- [info]kitsche was published in the LiveJournal Anniversary Anthology! Basically, LiveJournal compiled a book of selected LJ entries to chronicle their tenth year anniversary, and kitsche made it! I received my copy of the book not too long ago, and I've scanned the pages below. Exciting stuff!

You can purchase the book here. There are a ton more entries featured, many of which you'll probably recognize!

Anyway, these are long, long overdue.
